Travel Nursing
A couple of our traveling nurses recently finished up assignments and have moved on to new assignments elsewhere. They were excellent nurses who worked very well with the regular staff and brought a lot to the unit. I know I'll miss them for sure. A few months back a different traveling nurse who was up in the ICU was trying to talk me into signing up to be a traveling nurse as well. Its certainly got its perks: getting to see new places and see how other facilities work, no housing expenses, superb pay. The drawback is that with kids it would be rough and your belongings are essentially limited to two suitcases or whatever fits in your car if you drive. One of the nurses who just finished her contract with us seems to have found a great way to work around that: she takes assignments close to home during the school year so she can spend time with her family, and then takes her family along on the more far flung assigments during the summer months. Not too shabby, eh? I wonder if I could get a part time assigment somewhere to supplement my income nicely, but not interfere with my existing job? I'll have to mull it over as I've been needing some extra income and could use a change of scenery once in a while.
