Upper body vs lower body

Today when I was putting on my swimsuit in preparation for a workout/swim I noticed that my upper body is much smaller. My torso is markedly slimmer, and my arms are starting to get a tiny bit toned. My new swimsuit top from a few months ago is actually a bit loose, causing me to repeatedly replace my shoulder straps whilst swimming. My upper abdomen is similarly shrinking. In contrast, my lower abdomen and thighs are still saggy blobs of flesh. My swimsuit bottom, which was uncomfrtably tight, is now only slightly tight, so I'm taking that as a very solid indication of some progress, but it is frustrating since in the nude, the difference is not terribly apparent.

What am I going to do with this besides vent here? Well, I'm about to eat my Nutrisystem supper entree of lasagne, drink some water, and then go to the gym to do my first crosstraining since last Friday. I'll go as long as my still somewhat fatigued muscles will permit, but am hoping for a solid 30 minutes. After that I'll swim some laps, incorporating the butterfly to add to the cardiovascular load. A few weeks back someone posted on the Nutrisystem support board a very appropos analogy comparing weight loss to a roll of paper toweling. The gist of the comparison was that each sheet corresponds to one pound, and when you start, as each sheet and pound peel off, it doesn't make that obvious a difference because of the total percentage of the whole. However, as you keep plugging away and peeling off pounds, the loss does eventually become much more obvious. By the time you reach the last few sheets, each one makes a large difference in the total mass of the roll until you at last reach the core--your lean self. I guess my roll of toweling is just lopsided, with a greater volume of sheets on the bottom. My consolation is that from the ankles to about four inches above the knee I have some kick ass sexy legs. Even at my heaviest I've always been blessed with fabulous calves--likely due to the miles I walk on a regular basis and the extra calf workout inherent in wearing Birkenstocks all the time. I guess I just have to suck it up and be patient.
