Look, I'm actually working! Last night was fairly busy at work, despite a low census. Since I had fewer patients than the other nurses, I took the first admission--here I am frantically setting the room up for an admission that arrived 3 minutes later, with no report. The big rush was the ED gearing up to recieve victims from a head on collision, some of whom were in the process of being cut from their cars with the jaws of life. Once the patient was settled and the busy work of the charge nurse designation was over (staffing and assignments for the next two shifts, etc), I got a chance to take a break. Feeling energetic, I opted for a brisk 15 minute walk outside rather than sitting like a lump with my feet up. I really enjoy those late night walks, especially when the stars are out, but it gives the rest of the staff the heebie-jeebies. They are all afraid someone will attack them while they are outside--for whatever reason, it has never bothered me. I stay near hospital and don't go wandering down the street, and I stay away from the woods at the end of the parking lot. The night is peaceful, and instills a sense of calm in me that just isn't there during the day. Some folks nap ar read on break (assuming we get breaks--some nights you barely have time to pee), but a nice walk has always rejuvenated me.
